SUMMARY:Ivor Gurney by Diana Taylor – Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:FULLY BOOKED.\nThis event is now fully subscribed. Please get in touch if you would like to be added to the reserve list. \nIvor Gurney 1890-1937\, was not only a WW1 Poet but also a brilliant composer. He studied under Sir Charles Villier Stanford at the Royal College of Music and he was a contemporary of Vaughan Williams. \nHe suffered from depression and this was exacerbated by his experience of WW1 on the Somme. \nThe theme of the film is the contrast between his life experiencing the horrors of WW1 and his love of the Gloucestershire landscape\, which inspired much of his poetry and music including A Gloucestershire Rhapsody 1919 -1921. \nThe film sets Gurney in Gloucestershire and weaves this with his war poetry set to his composition War Elegy 1920 and WW1 footage. The film includes much of his beautiful piano music. \nThe film is a Redcliffe Films Production which is supported by the Newlyn International Film Festival. It has been shown at many festivals in the UK and Europe. \nTuesday 12th November\, 1 – 3.30pm\nBooking Essential / £4 suggested donation
