SUMMARY:Abigail Reynolds' Lost Libraries - fully booked
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED…\n‘Normal’ service is on its way…\nWe are delighted to let you know that we are making a tentative step towards resuming our talks programme\, and the first of these promises to be quite special. Numbers by necessity need to be reduced in the Reading Room\, so this will ‘sell out’ quite fast – apologies to those who miss out this time. We will retain a waiting list in case of cancellations. As ever\, we ask for a donation at the door\, and you can book by contacting the library. Refreshments will be served afterwards. \n  \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2016 Abigail Reynolds became the third recipient of the BMW Art Journey\, for her project The Ruins of Time: Lost Libraries of the Silk Road. Abigail made a five-month long journey to fifteen library sites along the Silk Road. The libraries were lost to political conflicts\, natural catastrophes\, revolutions\, and wars. \nReynolds’ journey was based on extensive research and took her to sites dating from 291 BC to 2011 AD\, including libraries along the whole length of the Silk Road – in China\, Uzbekistan\, Turkey\, Egypt\, Italy\, and Iran. Along the way\, Reynolds gathered material on sixteen mm film\, and by written text. \nAt Morrab library she will be talking about her book ‘Lost Libraries’ – a document of her travels which completes a journey that both starts and ends with the institution of the library. \n“The lost libraries are sad and lonely sites\, once full of voices in discussion. What was previously known\, though\, is perhaps never really lost. The enlightenment offered by the libraries is now extinguished\, but the embrace of the dark is not the same as despair.”\n– Abigail Reynolds \nWednesday 3rd November\, 2pm\nBooking Essential\n£5 Suggested Donation
