DESCRIPTION:Super Storytime is back! \nJoin us on Tuesday 12th April at 10.30 for a reading of When Will It Snow? by Kathryn White and Alison Edgson. \nWhen Little Bear’s mother tells him it is soon time to hibernate for the winter\, Little Bear hides. Little Bear is sure he’ll miss his friends Squirrel and Mole who will be having fun in the soft\, white snow. But when spring-time comes they prove to be real friends. We will discover why Little Bear needed to hibernate and what can be found when Spring arrives. Our activity will be to build an Easter nest and we all know what can be found in nests! \nThis session will be led by Jak Stringer\, former librarian of Heamoor CP School\, who believes in the creative superpower of a good story and activity. \nSuper Storytime is a journey for 4 to 8 year olds but there will be refreshments for the grown-ups they bring along! \nBooking is essential so please let us know if you would like to come along so we can make sure we have enough cake! SUMMARY:The British Way of War - A talk by Professor Andrew Lambert
DESCRIPTION:Join Professor Andrew Lambert on Wednesday 13th April for a fascinating insight into the uniqueness of  British war strategy. British security needs have been maritime and oceanic\, rather than military and continental\, unlike those of  other major powers\, and when British Governments forget that reality the results have been devastating\, in lives and resources. At the centre of the lecture is Sir Julian Corbett\, (1854-1922)\, the brilliant strategist who developed the concept of a distinctive ‘British Way’ working with the Royal Navy\, Government and the academic community. \nAndrew’s talk is based around his book of the same title – you can listen to a podcast about it here. \nAndrew Lambert is Laughton Professor of Naval History in the Department of War Studies at King’s College\, London\, and Director of the Laughton Naval History Unit. His work focuses on the naval and strategic history of the British Empire between the Napoleonic Wars and the First World War and the evolution of seapower. He has published widely and is winner of Anderson Medal of the Society for Nautical Research and the Gilder Lehrman Prize for Military History. \nAndrew’s talk will take place in the Reading Room on Wednesday 13th April at 2.00pm.  Numbers will be limited\, windows open\, and face coverings encouraged. \nWe will allocate tickets by a ballot system. Please register your interest and the number of tickets required by Monday 4th April by email or telephone. We will then draw out names and let you know if you have been successful. \n£5 Suggested donation. Refreshments will be served after the talk.

SUMMARY:Family Event - Easter Adventures in the Garden: Write Your Own Book!
DESCRIPTION:(Image by library volunteer Evie Moxham\, aged 12) \n\nCreate and write your own story in your very own zigzag book in the magnificent Morrab Library! \nOur creative writing event is open to 8-14 year olds and will provide the chance for children to devise their own story\, using inspiration from a tour of the Morrab Gardens\, alongside objects to help fuel their imagination. At the end of the session\, children will have their very own special book to take home. \n The workshop will allow participants to discover the secrets within Morrab Gardens with a tour by its head gardener Joe\, and be inspired to create outdoor adventure stories with your finds. We’ll also include an Easter Egg hunt on our tour. If the weather is poor\, we’ll provide a variety of objects from the gardens for you. \nBooking is essential so please let us know if you would like to come along so we can make sure we have enough cake! DESCRIPTION:Merci Ditch Present….Tales From The Reading Room. \nJoin us on Saturday 23rd April from 2.00pm\, when new company Merci Ditch launch themselves on the collective unconscious with some short stories in the afternoon. \nFaithful To The Original: He wrote a novelette upon her naked body\, in one draft without revision\, but how will they publish. \nLetters To Lucy: A mother regularly spills her good and aching heart on to paper\, to coax a lost daughter home; home to a banality she escaped in desperation. \nBibliophelia: A woman finds her heart in books – and buries it there. But human desire is not easily stifled\, and now the books whisper of a life beyond the printed page. \nElton And I: Two inept explorers rove the wide world and plunder a lifetime’s experience of baffling otherness to prove\, with slide photographs\, that one ought never to butter toast with a fork. \nA fundraiser for Morrab Library on The Bard’s birthday. \nAbout Merci Ditch:  \nKate and Stephen first performed together in Seven Stones initial production: Alan Ayckbourn’s Woman in Mind at the Minack Theatre. They were then in The Wireless Ensemble’s final production of a play written for radio\, and then the newly formed Blabbermouth Theatre Company. Blabbermouth took its first show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and toured subsequent self-created shows locally. Merci Ditch is another new venture to promote their own writing to a local audience. \nWe will allocate tickets by a ballot system.
