SUMMARY:A Royal Voyage: The Queen Goes Around the World - a talk by Andrew Bell
DESCRIPTION:In the Coronation Year 1953 and into 1954\, the Queen\, accompanied by the Duke\, set off on a round-the-world trip that took in the Commonwealth. As the Royal yacht Britannia was not ready they used a chartered British ship- the Gothic. Andrew Bell’s talk presents the story of this voyage using historic images. \n\n\nWe will allocate tickets by a ballot system. Please register your interest in attending by Monday 23rd May. We will then draw out names and let you know if you have been successful.

SUMMARY:Make a book - a workshop for beginners
DESCRIPTION:Local artist Karen Lorenz is the Morrab Library’s artist-in-residence during the Penzance Festival of Art\, running throughout June. \nAs part of her tenure\, Karen is offering a workshop to create a small hand sewn notebook with a paper flat back cover. \nYou’ll begin with the fundamentals of book binding\, understanding about paper grain and the hand tools you will need. Karen will teach the traditional long stich with link stitch method. You’ll prepare the cover and reinforce the edges and spine for extra support and protection. This technique won’t require glue. You learn how to fold large sheets of paper and create deckle (hand-torn) edges before sewing the signatures together to make a beautiful handmade book. \nThis course is suitable for beginners. SUMMARY:Creative Wellbeing workshop
DESCRIPTION:Emma Farley will be running another creative journaling and mindful lettering workshop at Morrab Library. \nEmma will be running the combined taster sessions (for those who missed the first taster session last month) from 1.15-2.15pm\, and a modern calligraphy session for those who have already attended a taster from 2.30-3.30pm.  \nTaster sessions will stay at £5 and include the beginner’s goody bag. DESCRIPTION:Join Karen Lorenz as she talks about her artist residency at the Morrab Library during the Penzance Art Festival\, running throughout June. \nKaren regards her residency as playing with purpose. In her talk\, she reflects on the creative process and how ideas first appear and take shape. ‘It is alive if you are’ illustrates the joy of illusion\, the moving image and being attentive to our surroundings. “I like to animate objects. They make excellent storytellers if you let them.” Karen works with drawing\, experimental animation\, and interactive media to explore that which cannot be articulated with words. \nKaren’s talk will enhance our understanding of her work\, which will be on display in the library during the PZ22 Penzance Art Festival. \nWe will allocate tickets by a ballot system.
