DESCRIPTION:Make it Better CIC is working with writer and theatre maker Jennifer Fletcher to run a workshop at The Morrab Library on Wednesday 1st May\, from 10:00 – 16:00. \nThis workshop led by Jennifer Fletcher explores a full-day individual and collaborative creative writing experience\, based on the theme ‘active looking’. No experience necessary\, a chance to be led through some tasks that allow participants to respond to the environment creatively\, in a relaxed atmosphere including a picnic lunch. \nAdjustments can be made to ensure this is an accessible experience – please let us know if you have any access requirements. \n

DESCRIPTION:Penzance-based poet and performer\, Katrina Naomi will read from her forthcoming collection\, ‘Battery Rocks’\, on “nature\, risk\, swimming and the sea”\, as well as from her range of poetry collections. \nHer latest collection – due from Seren in July 2024 – has already received the Arthur Welton Award from the Society of Authors. Katrina is also a recipient of the Keats-Shelley Prize and you may have spotted her work on Poems on the Underground\, heard it on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row and Poetry Please\, or read it in the TLS too. \nAfter her reading there will be chance to ask questions about her work and writing her new collection. \nTickets are allocated by a ballot system. DESCRIPTION:Join Bridget Crowley in conversation with Nigel Fairs in the Reading Room at The Morrab Library on Saturday 25th May at 2pm. \nThe next in our series of talks will be an entertaining drift through Bridget’s long career in the arts – dancing\, teaching\, running a leading theatre school and a student dance company\, working with children for the National Gallery\, the Royal Collection\, the Wallace Collection and for Young Cultural Creators. She was also audio-description for blind and partially sighted people at the National Theatre\, for VocalEyes\, and some of the great British dance companies. But always\, there was ‘a little writing on the side’. She is the author of four children’s books\, and her new book\, “Wake up Mr Kean!” a ghost story set in Penzance & now out in paperback\, may well be mentioned! \nNigel Fairs is an actor and writer who has worked in film\, tv\, radio & on stage\, including the National Theatre\, the West End and off Broadway. His latest novel\, ‘Homo Inferior’\, is being published in September. \nTickets are allocated by a ballot system. DESCRIPTION:  \n\nOn Tuesday 28th May\, Jan will be running a “Super Rhyme Story Time” for children aged 4-8. She will be reading Lynley Dodd’s classic children’s picture book\, ‘Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy’. This story time will explore rhyme through storytelling\, Jan will then help the children to write rhymes of their own and there will be a craft activity too. “Super Rhyme Story Time” is a journey for 4 to 8-year-olds but there will be refreshments for the grown-ups they bring along! Booking is essential so please let us know if you would like to come along so we can make sure we have enough cake.
