CANCELLED: David Dearlove talk, Wed 12th Feb

Morrab Gardens are closed today due to the high winds so the Library is closed for the rest of the day. This unfortunately means that David Dearlove’s talk has been cancelled.

Did you know, we have a poetry group at the Librar Did you know, we have a poetry group at the Library that meets here fortnightly? The Poetry Group is now entering its seventh year and there are a limited number of places for new members starting on Thursday 26th September. The group meets on alternate Thursdays at 1.30pm at The Morrab to read and discuss poems by a variety of poets, chosen by a member of the group. The first session of the new term will be on the poet A.E. Stallings. There are still some spaces available at @theseawe There are still some spaces available at @theseaweedinstitute ‘Seaweed Pressing’ workshop taking place at the Library this Saturday (14th). Tickets are £40 via the link in our bio. The workshop runs from 10-1.30 & will be an opportunity to learn the Victorian craft of seaweed pressing, see examples of pressings from our archive, and will include a walk down to the foreshore to learn about sustainable harvesting and gather some seaweed to press. Philip Riley, an artist based in Cyprus, and mixed Philip Riley, an artist based in Cyprus, and mixed media artist Nadia Peters will be in residence at The Morrab Library from 17th - 25th September. At the end of their residency they will be giving a talk about their time here and how they used our historic book collection as a visual and literary starting point for the creation of sculptural work, particularly the work of Conrad Gesner’s 16th century work ‘Historia Animalium’. Local artist Claire Lucas will be returning to The Local artist Claire Lucas will be returning to The Morrab Library to run a 7 session term of art classes, starting from September 19th. Using slideshows, demonstrations and a wide range of drawing activities, Claire will help you to develop your drawing skills, find subject matter that inspires you. Our next Library Talk will be an introduction to T Our next Library Talk will be an introduction to The Seaweed Institute’s first book 'Gomonna', in collaboration with the independent publisher Ancient Magic. This talk will take place in the Reading Room on Wednesday 18th September at 2pm. Gomonna celebrates seaweed and Cornwall. It spans stories, research, foraging insights and recipes. Illustrated with historical photographs and seaweed pressings. All of our talks are open to members and non-members alike and tickets are allocated by a ballot system.
