We have lots of new Young Adult books in the libra We have lots of new Young Adult books in the library, including Nofel Nawras' Brighton Funk, a coming-of-age story set in Brighton in the 1970's, and Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé's Ace of Spades, an edge-of-the-seat thriller.

And today we are thrilled to welcome our brand-new volunteer Martha, who will help us look after the collection.

The epic Tour de France cycle race begins today. W The epic Tour de France cycle race begins today. We know many of our members love riding their bikes around our beautiful countryside, and these lads in the 1920's obviously did too!

They have revolving bell chimes on their bikes - the 'must-have' accessory back then. We wonder what they would make of modern bike technology?

Happy weekend everyone!

Have you had a look at our Members’ Book Suggest Have you had a look at our Members’ Book Suggestions blog over on our website yet?

Last week we shared a suggestion from library member Harry Carson - ‘South From Granada’ by Gerald Brenan which Harry describes as a “compassionate record of Spanish villages unspoiled by rapid progress; villages peopled by young lovers, old widows, suspect officials and a realisation that nature, even in hot and hostile places can and does provide if we are willing to be patient.”

This one is available to borrow in the library if it has piqued your interest.

You can read Harry's full review on our blog (link in bio)

We know it doesn't really feel like summer in Penz We know it doesn't really feel like summer in Penzance today but thankfully the forecast is much more promising for the weekend!

Book one of the few remaining places on Claire Lucas' 'Summer Art Day', taking place at the library on Saturday, to celebrate the unique beauty of this season in West Cornwall.

The class will take inspiration from the plants of Morrab Gardens, photographs of the Penwith landscape and local artists’ depictions of summertime. Claire will guide you to producing sketches and more finished pieces using a variety of media of your choice. All levels of experience welcome.

Find out more about the class on our website (link in bio) and contact Claire directly to book.

Today marks the Day of the Seafarer, recognising t Today marks the Day of the Seafarer, recognising the invaluable contribution seafarers make, often at great personal cost to themselves and their families.

Here's an image of a young Arthur Tippett born in Trewellard, Pendeen in 1903. He was a merchant seaman and on 3rd June 1923 was the 3rd. officer on board the S.S. Trevessa when the ship was sank off the coast of Australia. Eleven lives were lost at sea and after nearly 3 weeks the remaining crew, including Arthur, arrived at Mauritius.

A book describing the events was written by the ship's Captain, Cecil Foster, relating the events, which is held in the library.
