Meet the Occupants of the Elizabeth Treffry Room – a talk by Maggi Livingstone and Melissa Morse

Join us for our next talk on Wednesday 18th May with Maggi Livingstone and Melisa Morse, who will introduce us to four remarkable women:

Violetta Thurstan – 1879 -1978 WWI heroine, linguist, writer of both fact and fiction, traveller and weaver.

Grace Pettman Pout – 1870-1952 Preacher, writer of 50 novels & 270 short stories, who began her career when she was just 7 years old.

Litz Pisk – 1909-1997 Artist, writer and internationally renowned teacher of Movement at The Central School of Speech and Drama.

Lilian Bland – 1878-1971 Journalist, pioneer aviator and aeronautical engineer.

The library holds archive collections on three of these great women, and Maggi and Melissa will bring all of their stories to life in this upcoming talk.

Maggi  Livingstone worked as an archivist in two East Suffolk Museums prior to moving to Cornwall several years ago. She now volunteers with the Hypatia Trust and Morrab Library.  Her particular interests are to highlight those women whose work has never been celebrated.

Melissa Morse  is a retired policy civil servant who moved from London to Cornwall five years ago. She spends her time gazing at the sea, volunteering, binging box sets, throwing pots and playing in a string quartet.

We will allocate tickets by a ballot system. Please register your interest and the number of tickets required by Monday 9th May by email or telephone. We will then draw out names and let you know if you have been successful.

£5 Suggested donation. Refreshments will be served.
