Hilda Quick Cards
The Morrab Library is fortunate to hold a large archive of works by Hilda Quick (1895–1978), a remarkable Cornish artist, illustrator, wood-engraver and ornithologist.
Born in Penzance, Hilda trained at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London and went on to design programmes for the Minack Theatre. Her 1948 book Marsh and Shore — which she both wrote and illustrated with her distinctive wood engravings — was a bestseller, followed in 1964 by Birds of the Isles of Scilly. After moving to St Agnes in 1951, she remained there for the rest of her life, producing an extraordinary body of work spanning wood engravings, watercolours, sketches and pen-and-ink studies.
We are delighted to share some of this legacy wth you through two new sets of cards, available exclusively from the Library.
