Hugo White was born into a military family and grew up in India. He joined the army when he was 18 and started his career with The Coldstream Guards and trained at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. In 1950 he was commissioned into the Somerset Light Infantry. After leaving the Army in 1979 he was invited to reorganise the Regimental Museum in Bodmin.
