Roland Morris, a marine salver among many other things, once said “In order to find sunken treasure one has to start with a chart, preferably one made of old leather soaked in oil.” And by thunder, when as a young teenager, he found one and therein lies our story of one man’s quest to rescue from the sea what the sea had taken from the many.
Our voyage of discovery takes us into the darkness, one stormy night in October 1707 with the loss of the Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell’s treasure laden Flagship – Association. And to 1798 with the sinking of HMS Colossus and the recovery of fragments from the second Hamilton collection of antique greek vases, now housed in the British Museum.
