Mordros is Cornish for ‘sound of the sea’ & it

Mordros is Cornish for ‘sound of the sea’ & it is also the name of a community poetry project facilitated by the @morvorenproject which aims to foster the enjoyment and writing of poetry in people of all ages across Cornwall.

On Saturday 8th and Saturday 15th June, they will be running two FREE sea-inspired poetry workshops at @morrablibrary aimed at children aged 9 - 12. They will bring the ocean to life using prompts to create sea-themed poems.

"Let’s hear the sea, think it, feel it, touch it, and even smell it. Let’s imagine ourselves in the sea or under it, and, perhaps skimming its surface like a seagull or a surfer. Let’s use our own words to share joyful experiences and memories of the ocean through poetry."

Alongside the adult's competition, the @pepoetryprize also has a children’s poetry competition!

It is open to entries from young poets all over the world and has two age categories – aged 4 to 11 & 12 to 17. It is free to enter, does not have a theme and will be judged by a fantastic trio of judges based in Cornwall: Annamaria Murphy, Dicky Souray and Keith Sparrow.

We are delighted to announce that the @pepoetryprize 2024 is now open for entries! We have partnered with The Dennis Myner Trust to run this international poetry competition again this summer. The overall competition will be judged by @katrinanaomipoet, with a new “Sonnet Prize” for the best poem written in this form judged by Jodie Hollander. On Saturday 25th May (2pm) Bridget Crowley will be in conversation with actor and writer Nigel Fairs in the Reading Room at The Morrab Library. The talk will be an entertaining drift through Bridget's long career in the arts - dancing, teaching, running a leading theatre school, always with "a little writing on the side". She also is the author of four children’s books including her latest, “Wake up Mr Kean!”, a ghost story set in Penzance.
