As our selection of Hilda Quick notecards and post As our selection of Hilda Quick notecards and postcards were released for sale earlier this month, we wanted to highlight one of her books in our collection that you can borrow.

‘Miss Quick writes from the beginner’s angle, with full realization of the beginner’s difficulties and probable errors, but she is not, in fact, quite such a tyro as she makes out. She has had many years' experience of bird-watching’ - Marsh and Shore. Bird Watching on the Cornish Coast. Hilda M. Quick.

A very gloriumptious (something glorious and wonde A very gloriumptious (something glorious and wonderful) Roald Dahl Day to you all!

On this day in 1916 Roald Dahl was born. His children's novels have been influential in the storytelling world for readers of all ages for many decades.

A common trait of his tales was his ability to create completely made up words, a few example can be found in the images of this post.

We have a selection of books for readers to borrow in the Children’s literature room and have also updated the children’s section with a little writing activity inspired by Roald’s Revolting Rhymes.

With ‘back to school’ in mind - have you ever With ‘back to school’ in mind - have you ever wanted to refresh your Cornish?

We have a great collection of Cornish dictionaries (from quite a few decades) to get stuck into.

This one, for example, published in 1978 by The Cornish Language Board, has notes written in adding the word for academic, near the section that explores words for school.

One of our Library volunteers, Michael Malone-Lee, One of our Library volunteers, Michael Malone-Lee, recently happened upon an unusual, witty, anonymously published poem in an innocuous volume in the Theology Room, dating from 1811.

Enchanted and intrigued, Michael delved deeper to uncover its author, the Revd. C. Valentine Le Grice (1773-1858), and explores the background to his entertaining piece, The Petition of an Old Uninhabited House in Penzance to its Master in Town.
