Our next talk in the Reading Room will be 'A rambl Our next talk in the Reading Room will be 'A ramble around Wilkie Collins' with Jak Stringer on Wednesday 23rd October. After discovering that Wilkie Collins had toured Cornwall in 1850 and written a travel journal, Jak Stringer felt inspired to follow in his footsteps. She wanted answers to questions; why did the people of Looe eat rats, the women of Saltash clean boots and the folk on Scilly never open windows? This 60-minute, light-hearted, multi-media performance delves into Collins’ formative years and his rambles around Cornwall! Tickets are allocated by a ballot system. Or thoughts about what makes The Morrab Library special to you?" @rebeccaharveyceramics' new piece, as part of her joint Artist Residency with poet Lucy Sparrow, poses these questions & encourages visitors & members alike to write down their thoughts about the Library to contribute to a new artwork. Meanwhile, in the Art Room you will find a rather unique sculpture; a ‘Porcelain Sound Box’ created by Fintan O’Hare (Lucy's son). He is a composer & has constructed this sound installation from discarded ceramic fragments from Rebecca's studio. Pop in to the Art Room to experience this conversational piece for yourself! We have a Shakespeare Group that meets at The Morr We have a Shakespeare Group that meets at The Morrab Library weekly on Wednesday mornings from 10am-12.15. Come and enjoy a close read and deep exploration of the context, ideas and imagery of Shakespeare's plays. This term the group will be looking at Measure for Measure and Coriolanus. Pop in to the Elizabeth Treffry Room to meet artis Pop in to the Elizabeth Treffry Room to meet artists @nadiapetersart and @philiprileyresidency who are in residence here until 25th September. They have turned the room into their studio for the week & are creating pieces inspired by the library, with a particular focus on some of the rare books in our collection.
