Philip Riley, an artist based in Cyprus, and mixed

Philip Riley, an artist based in Cyprus, and mixed media artist Nadia Peters will be in residence at The Morrab Library from 17th - 25th September.

At the end of their residency they will be giving a talk about their time here and how they used our historic book collection as a visual and literary starting point for the creation of sculptural work, particularly the work of Conrad Gesner’s 16th century work ‘Historia Animalium’.

Local artist Claire Lucas will be returning to The

Local artist Claire Lucas will be returning to The Morrab Library to run a 7 session term of art classes, starting from September 19th.

Using slideshows, demonstrations and a wide range of drawing activities, Claire will help you to develop your drawing skills, find subject matter that inspires you.

All levels of experience are welcome, including absolute beginners.

Our next Library Talk will be an introduction to The Seaweed Institute’s first book 'Gomonna', in collaboration with the independent publisher Ancient Magic.

This talk will take place in the Reading Room on Wednesday 18th September at 2pm.

Gomonna celebrates seaweed and Cornwall. It spans stories, research, foraging insights and recipes. Illustrated with historical photographs and seaweed pressings.

All of our talks are open to members and non-members alike and tickets are allocated by a ballot system. If you would like to attend, please email the Morrab Library (more details in the link in our bio).

This month we've been sharing photos from our #PhotoArchive of theatres in Cornwall but as it's National Cinema Day tomorrow here are a few photos of the cinemas in Penzance through the ages.

The beautiful quilt created by the West Penwith Embroidered Bees Project is on display in the Natural Sciences room upstairs in the Library until 3.30pm today.

Pop in to learn more about this fantastic project raising awareness of wild bees, to borrow books from the display & read bee poems by Vivienne Tregenza too.
