Keats died 200 years ago today, aged only 25 - lea Keats died 200 years ago today, aged only 25 - leaving us with his exquisite, enduring poetry.

As well as being an almost preternatural poetic genius, Keats loved his friends, and a good party, and never liked goodbyes. But here he is in this dark, unforgettable poetic fragment, messing with our minds, and hearts.

(We recommend, alongside revisiting his poetry, his love letters to Fanny Brawne, Andrew Motion's excellent biography, and Jane Campion's beautiful biopic, Bright Star.)

The great polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton was The great polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton was born on this day in 1874. His most famous exploit was his attempt to cross Antarctica from sea to sea, via the south pole, in 1914.
However, disaster struck when his ship, the Endurance, became trapped in pack ice and was destroyed. Only an arduous and terrifying lifeboat journey by Shackleton and five crew saved the rest of the ship's men.
Morrab Library holds some beautiful books about Shackleton and his exploits, including those that feature the incredible images captured by the expedition's Australian photographer Frank Hurley.

Today is World Radio Day. For so many of us, the Today is World Radio Day. For so many of us, the radio has proved to be an even more invaluable companion than usual throughout the last year, providing reassuring company and keeping us informed (even when we may not always want to be!).

This couple are undoubtedly tuning into their wireless for the latest Top 40 countdown....
