Medieval Identities: Exploring seal matrices workshop with Laura Miucci

Have you ever wondered about peoples’ relationships with identity in Medieval Cornwall?
How could they prove a letter came from them?
Or that a shipment of their produce arrived?
With seals of course!
Join Laura as we explore Medieval society – through their seal matrices! We will begin with a short talk exploring some of the real-life examples of seals: all found in Cornwall!
From the merchant class copper-alloy trading seals, to personalised silver seals with intricate designs. This holistic talk-workshop will explore how people interacted with identity, and in turn, how we see ourselves today.
fter the talk, we will have a go at designing our own individual seal matrix. And of course, they can be taken home as a keepsake.
Laura is a qualified archaeologist and the former Finds Liaison Officer for Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, so please feel free to bring along any seal matrices you may have at home for identification.
Tickets are £12 (plus booking fee)
