We are delighted to announce that the @pepoetryprize 2024 is now open for entries! We have partnered with The Dennis Myner Trust to run this international poetry competition again this summer. The overall competition will be judged by @katrinanaomipoet, with a new “Sonnet Prize” for the best poem written in this form judged by Jodie Hollander. On Saturday 25th May (2pm) Bridget Crowley will be in conversation with actor and writer Nigel Fairs in the Reading Room at The Morrab Library. The talk will be an entertaining drift through Bridget's long career in the arts - dancing, teaching, running a leading theatre school, always with "a little writing on the side". She also is the author of four children’s books including her latest, “Wake up Mr Kean!”, a ghost story set in Penzance. Yesterday, in conjunction with the inaugural John

Yesterday, in conjunction with the inaugural John le Carré Memorial Lecture presented by @morrablibray at the @acornpenzance, a new portrait of the late author was unveiled at a reception at the Library.

The painting in impasto oils by @garylongartist was commissioned by @taswestcornwall, major sponsor of the biennial lecture and associated events.

A generous grant from the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund, organised by the national Arts Society, allowed the commissioning of the portrait, which will hang in the library.

We were saddened to learn of the death of British author C.J. Sansom at the weekend. Best known for his Matthew Shardlake series, his novels remain very popular with our members. Visit the library or drop us an email if you would like to borrow any of his books.
