Our magnificent housekeeper Laura is also the maestro of the Golowan Band, who lead the Furry Dance throughout Penzance, as part of the celebrations on Cornwall’s national day. 
She dropped in before the parade to tidy the library - now that’s multi-tasking!

We have a high quality reproduction of the 1841 ma We have a high quality reproduction of the 1841 map of the Borough of Penzance at the Library. Original, pictured here, can be found displayed in the Library. 

The map shows how the modern Borough boundary was drawn with a compass, as a semi circle, with no connection at all to existing ancient field boundaries

Championships at the Lost Gardens of Heligan today? Heading into St Piran’s Day week, Cornwall will crown its ultimate pasty makers at the inaugural Global Pasty Championships.

Mark Beeson (1954-2022) was trained as a classicis Mark Beeson (1954-2022) was trained as a classicist and primatologist, and founded the Manaton & East Dartmoor Theatre. His greatest legacy is his creative and ecological writing of poetry and plays relating to Dartmoor.
