We have several talks at the Library before the end of the year!
There are still a handful of spaces at Bridget Crowley and Nigel Fairs' festive poetry reading tomorrow afternoon (Weds 4th, 2pm). Join Bridget and Nigel in the Reading Room for Christmas poems, ranging from the maudlin to the merry, by a variety of poets. Spaces still available, please email enquirires@morrablibrary.org.uk to book a place.
Next Wednesday (11th, 2pm), our current duo of Artists in Residence, artist Rebecca Harvey (@rebeccaharveyceramics) and poet Lucy Sparrow will be talking about their year long residency: 'Poetry and Porcelain'. Spaces still available, please email enquirires@morrablibrary.org.uk to book a place.
On Saturday 14th December (2pm), join editors Peter McAllister and Kate Horsley, along with a number of contributing writers at this, the launch of ‘Cornwall in Short’. Tickets are allocated by a ballot system. Please email enquirires@morrablibrary.org.uk before Monday 9th December to be entered into the ballot for a ticket.

This week's ferry photo features the ‘Lady of the Isles’ passenger boat to the Isles of Scilly, which ran aground off Lamorna Cove in thick fog in 1904. Her passengers had to be rescued by rowing boat.

Pop in to The Morrab Library on Friday 6th Decembe

Pop in to The Morrab Library on Friday 6th December for a festive decoration making workshop with artist Rebecca Harvey.

Rebecca is one half of our current Artists in Residence duo and has recently installed a beautiful floral display over one of the windows in our Reading Room to celebrate the festive season. Nestled within the display you may have spotted some lovely ceramic Christmas ornaments, made by Rebecca, and this workshop will be a chance to adorn your own tree decoration.

The workshop will take place in the Art Room, between 1pm-3pm, and is drop-in. Members and non-members alike of all ages are welcome.

Suggested donation £5, includes materials.

Whilst it is an archive of treasures revealing the past, it also embraces the contemporary and speaks to the future.
Poet Lucy Sparrow and ceramicist Rebecca Harvey (@rebeccaharveyceramics ) spent time exploring and responding to the wonders of this special place over the course of a year.
You’re warmly invited to an illustrated talk and conversation discussing their time spent as Artists in Residence, as well as a reading of Lucy’s poems.

This year, our Photo Archive team has produced a beautiful calendar using photographs from our historic collection featuring the people of Penwith, including this photo for July of the True Love boat built by Mr Ellis on Camberwell Street in 1906.
The calendar is priced at £10 and it is available to purchase from the Library. We are also happy to send the calendars in the post with a small additional fee for postage.

Our current artist-in-residence Rebecca Harvey has created a beautiful floral display in our Reading Room to celebrate the festive season.

Look closely and you'll also spot some lovely ceramic Christmas decorations made by Rebecca. She has donated a number of these for sale, with all proceeds going to the library. Pop in to buy one (and our calendar and Christmas cards too!).

We’re thrilled to announce that on Wednesday 26th February, brilliant writers Philip Marsden and Tim Hannigan will be in conversation at @theacorntheatre in Penzance. All proceeds will go to the care of our library.

Tickets are available to buy from the Acorn box office, online or in person.

@edgeoftheworldbookshop will be selling copies of the authors’ books at the event.
